wow... it's a beautifully written, raw, innovative, disturbing, and powerful story. it left me in genuine awe - toni morrison was an absolute master of her craft. she uses surrealism and magical realism to their maximum power and potential to convey themes of trauma, the long-lasting impact of slavery, mother-daughter relationships, and so much more. i don't think i can even do it justice with my own words, especially as a white reader. i'll be thinking about this one for a long time.
