The Method by Shannon Kirk

1.0

1.5 purely because the concept was pretty unique, otherwise would probably be 1. This book sounded like an interesting concept from the blurb but then was pretty much a disappointment from the start. Because the protagonist had a condition that meant she was very cold and calculating, and the officer also was pretty unemotional, there was no one to connect with or really become invested in. The counting and the cataloguing of assets became annoying even within chapter 1, and I found the whole "flick a switch" concept unbelievable and used very conveniently throughout the story. I felt like there were a lot of inconsistencies as well and a lot of grammar and editing mistakes which is always frustrating when it happens enough to be noticeable. Would not recomend to...anyone really. The few somewhat interesting aspects were overshadowed by all the negatives. Boyd was a pretty funny character but a bit stereotypical, Liu was the strongest part of the book but still fell short because he lacked depth. In short, annoying protagonist, unrealistic portrayals of events and characters, inconsistencies, way too many convenient plot points. Only plus is that it was a quick read so I didn't struggle through it for more than a day! Hate giving a book such a bad review (I think maybe my first 1 star) but I really didn't find many positives and can't think of anyone I would recommend to :(
