The Secret of the Nagas by Amish Tripathi

3.0

“Strong people stick to their morals, no matter what the trials and tribulations, Weak people, many times, do not even realize how low they have sunk.”
~
The first book concludes with Shiva in deep agony and affliction. His brother-like-friend is killed by the mysterious veiled figure. This book picks up right where the first one leaves us. Shiva vows to avenge the death of his friend and this installment of the series follows his journey to destroy the biggest evil. Many dreadful discoveries are to be realized and dissembling deception to be unveiled. Alliances take an alteration and the conception of good and evil comes in lucid clarity. As the dynamics of relationships change, the long-considered enemy turned intimate friend and vice-versa; the story gradually sweeps brilliantly to end with a shocking revelation.

The author yet again fabricates a fascinating tale around mythological fiction and gives complete justice to this sequel of the first book. It keeps up with the merits of ‘Immortals of Meluha’ maintaining a proper pace. It is a fairly engaging read, keeping you at the edge. Skirmishes are set off pretty well establishing the action measure throughout the narrative and emotion sequences equally evocative.

The only thing that was a little off for me was the loose ends-like the Branga rituals, the mysterious plague-which I feel have been sequenced in haste. I also felt apart from the inordinate portrayal as a fierce warrior, Kartik deserved more character development, but it is a personal feeling.
Overall, it made up for an engrossing read with some substantial descriptions about good and evil, which stood out for me.
