The idea of an ancient species of man-eating spiders taking out millions of people is not exactly enjoyable, but it makes for a great horror plot. I did enjoy reading the book and had a hard time putting it down. My problem with it lies in the author's writing. I'm not sure if it's just me, but the ways he describes women are sometimes off-putting. It's nothing overtly creepy or bad, it simply feels off. That occurred mostly in the beginning as we meet the characters, and lessened towards the end, but it was distracting enough that the book took hits to its rating from me.
