Monster: The Perfect Edition, Vol. 3 by Naoki Urasawa

3.0

The library doesn’t have volume 3 so I had no choice but to read this online, some parts were translated by someone named “noodle” and there were some blank speech bubbles here and there and little mixups like the word “misfortunately” etc. So I’m again unfair to the book bc of the disjointed experience of reading it, but for the rest I have the physical copy which means it will hopefully be smooth sailing from here on out.

I keep getting so confused at the timeline and where people are at. How does Johan have the time to be the head of some money laundering syndicate and also the god of the neo nazis and also a law student? I didn’t feel like I was hitting my stride of understanding in this volume until we got to the subplot of Lotte and Karl who read to the rich old man. Karl is the old man’s son but the man doesn’t know that Karl knows, and i don’t think he actually knows Karl is his son in the first place. Is the other reader actually faking or is he also the old man’s son? How is johan involved?

Eva showed up again. She was sleeping with …. I am losing track of all the evil guys and who is working for who. I do remember the main detective who is working under the completely wrong theory that Tenma and Johan are the same person housed within Tenma’s mind via DID. Maybe the detective is actually thinking in 4d and any time we have seen Tenma and Johan together was a fight club esque mental projection.

The one guy who killed Nina/Anna’s parents I forgot about him

Ugh I’m losing track I really wish I read these all in one go why did I do this to myself I need a summary
