Appalachian Elegy: Poetry and Place by bell hooks

4.0

The verses here are spare and abstract, sometimes leaning toward imagism, though mostly less concrete. Taken as a whole, the collection sometimes gets a bit repetitive, but there are some truly beautiful moments here, and the author deftly evokes the themes of pain and loss, environmental degradation, and reclaiming history. Definitely compelling.
