I don’t think I’ve started a new series and been hooked from the very start quite like I was with Ruthless. Hannah Gray is a wonderful writer. I was convinced I wouldn’t cry in this one. Afterall, it’s a mafia romance. I expected the brutality. What I didn’t expect was for it to be so heartfelt and the emotion to feel so genuine. I refuse to give away any spoilers because the way Hannah writes this book you get details along the way and right when you need to know why, it comes full circle. Ah! If you like a feisty female who’s not content with being held captive and bruty guard who can't take his eyes off her, you're going to love Ruthless.
The tension between these two was palpable. I don’t know how they ever existed in the same room without being engulfed in flames. There’s something about that bodyguard/forbidden element that really tips things over the edge. While this book wasn’t jammed packed with steamy action, what we got was top notch quality spice.
Briar James is one hell of a FMC. People overlook her thinking she’s so meek and helpless. But trust when I say, she’s seen some ish. She’s incredibly observant and determined to take down Enzo(her betrothed) and his crew while keeping the casualties(like her brother and his hockey career) to a minimum. But it gets hard to know who to trust when she develops feelings for her very built and tatted personal guard, Hercules. But it couldn’t be as simple as taking down the mafia, escaping her hideous fiance, and finding love with the man standing outside her room could it?
