The Paris Mysteries by Maxine Paetro, James Patterson

4.0

I definitely noticed the signs of this book being churned out by the James Patterson bestseller factory: substandard writing full of strange repetition and weird similes, characters acting out of character compared to previous books, incredibly fast jumps in tone, location, etc...

But still, I got through the audiobook as quickly as I could. There was plenty of scandal and drama to keep me interested, and it was great to get back to the "eccentric family with lots of secrets" theme from the first book in this series after the second book's foray into rather boring courtroom scenes and useless mystery subplots. Though on the other hand, there was so little filler in this installment that it seemed the characters could never catch a break--it was just one victory and then tragedy after another.

And even though I miss the narrator from the first two books, the new narrator wasn't bad...just not the same.

Finally,
SpoilerI don't typically wish for peoples' deaths, but Peter just has to die in the next book. Either that, or get life in prison.
