The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart

1.0

I get very upset when I have invested time and money in a book that not only failed to meet my expectations but was also a pain to read.

Pain because I needed three weeks to go through the mediocre narration and the many POVs to realize that this was a book about overthrowing an emperor, something that I have already guessed from the first chapters.

I cannot say that I enjoyed the writing. I will not read anything by the author soon so I don't recommend this book if you're looking for something fast-paced or unexpected.

The idea is interesting but the execution reminded me of a D&D campaign. I feel like the book wanted to resemble The Priory of the Orange Tree in a way but it failed. I didn't like The Priory too so I guess I should reconsider multi-POV books set in islands, right?

In any case, I am sad to say that I felt like I spent my time in a book I didn't like at all. I wanted to stop reading it for so long but my perfectionism didn't let me go.
