Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid

3.0

I really liked the characters in this, even though I feel like Reid tried way too hard to make her heroine quirky in an adorable way. (I mostly just found her exasperating and annoying by turns but I also felt some sympathy for her social awkwardness.) Her hero is pretty two-dimensional, and I have 0 clue what the plot actually was, except for it being a hot mess, however, because I felt like the thing with the sister was stupid and also overly complicated, and that was pretty much it. I cared more about the knitting circle than an perceived danger from the people after Janie's sister, and that says pretty much all that needs to be said. I'm also going to say that it the main drama of the plot was introduced way too late as well. Reid clearly wanted to focus on a reluctant romance, but since the narrator felt no real urgency towards the main conflict--indeed didn't even know it existed for 80% of the book--I didn't care either. Which kind of sums up my thoughts on this book. I liked the characters but didn't care about the plot at all, which really good characters and a coherent plotline will make you do.
