Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

3.0

3.5 stars. Northanger Abbey was fun. The description was a little inaccurate in that the “gothic novel satire” bit only came into play about 2/3 into the book and wasn’t a major component of the story (though it nicely emphasized certain features of Henry’s and Catherine’s characters). This is a story about a naïve young woman, one who is exceedingly earnest, who falls in love for the first time, both romantically and platonically. She’s forced to contend with people whose inner motivations and desires are foreign to her, and the consequences are amusing.
