Much like the fact that many books that grapple with death and dying are actually about life, this book that explores separation, infidelity and divorce is actually about marriage. I savoured Kitamura's slow-burning approach and detached writing style. This book is definitely not a thriller though she does play with tropes from that genre. I was quietly enraptured.
