School began once more for Cassel, now awashed in self-loathing and despair. He continued trying to blend in, now with knowledge of his true abilities, but it's getting harder and harder. The Feds were hassling him, seeking his help on a list of six murders,; Zacharov circling him like a shark, enticing him with potential riches and the prospect of safety he'd have if only he would become one of Zacharov's gang. On top of all that, he must deal with Lilah's love -- real, or still a remnant of his mother's emotional work? His friends' issues: Sam wanting to study EFX rather than chemistry, the rising political storm that strips the rights of curse workers more and more.
A very serviceable addition to the series. Recommended.

5 of the 6 murders were results of his past, un-remembered assassinations. The 6th, his brother, was killed by his ex-wife Maura, who wanted to escape from her marriage once and for all.A very serviceable addition to the series. Recommended.
