Flirting with the Frenemy by Pippa Grant
5.0
Ellie unexpectedly ends up rooming with and fake dating her brother’s best friend, Wyatt, whom she crushes on finds incredibly frustrating, during the festivities leading up to her best friend’s wedding.
With her ex standing opposite her as the best man, she always planned on taking a fake date to the wedding. Wyatt just wasn’t the fake date she had in mind.
At a glance:
- Brother’s best friend
- Teenage crush
- Single dad
- Military man
- Forced proximity
- Fake dating
- Frenemies-to-lovers
- Recent breakup (her)
- Recent divorce (him)
- Adorable 7 year-old
- A “this was a mistake” moment 😬 (Don’t worry. We readers know it wasn’t a mistake.)
- Lots of verbal sparring
- 🔥 chemistry but disasters seem to occur every time they connect
- And a pirate-themed wedding during a pirate festival in a mountain town called Shipwreck (Yes, you read that correctly. And it is fantastic.)
Read it for
- The banter!
- The connection
- The eccentricities of Shipwreck and its inhabitants
- The heat between Ellie and Wyatt
- The chosen/found family
This one is narrated by Erin Mallon and Joe Arden. (Yes, it is that Joe Arden, but this audiobook is from 2019.) They do a great job of capturing Ellie’s and Wyatt’s personalities, and as a bonus, they capture the voice of Tucker, Wyatt’s son, well, too. (Look: Sometimes the way adults portray kid voices for audiobooks can be painful. I was delighted to discover that isn’t the case here.)
I received a copy of the audiobook from the author and Hambright PR. All review opinions are my own.
