Star Wars: Vector Prime by R.A. Salvatore

4.0

I've been beating this dead horse since 2014, but I'll say it again: Disney appropriating Star Wars and retconning the EU was probably the worst thing the franchise has experienced. Compare Abrams and Johnson killing off old characters for shock value with this. Not only is Chewie's death actually impactful, but it actually serves a purpose beyond having Chuck Wendig lookalikes leave a five star review on Vice . The EU actually has a basic respect for its source material.

Another great thing about the EU is, as evidenced by this, is that its quality is significantly higher than other licensed spinoffs, matching, and in my opinion surpassing, its source material. It doesn't feel like a spinoff novel, it feels like a logical continuation of the same work, just handed off to another team of writers. In addition to respecting its source material, Vector Prime also has a healthy amount of respect for itself, and so, I hope, does the rest of NJO
