Many thoughts and feelings
Having now read this trilogy and watched their movie adaptations, the movies are much better. Yes, there are certain plot points that are left out and a few loose ends that never get tied, but the movies each have their own beginning, middle, and end.
Each book literally starts seconds after the end of the previous book, I honestly believe that the three novels should be combined into one large book for a better reading experience.
Also, Gwen barely has any interaction with her biological parents, then Charlotte is given no redemption arc and their relationship is never able to grow.
Lastly defeating the villain was literally one page. I had to reread three times to properly understand what had happened and then it just ended.
The movies are able to fix these issues by having better pacing, allowing time jumps, and focusing on the most interesting aspects of the series more than the books did.
So yeah... the movies are better.
