i was intimidated by this book for a long time but when i finally picked it up, i ended up reading it in one sitting (which u shouldn't do lol). oh man, i wanna say something smart about its themes and the main character himself but i literally can't articulate the right words lol y'all should just read it yourself jk i don't even know if i understand it right.
prose-wise it was simple and it was short. but i had to sit in silence for hours to digest what happened. the way the words and sentences were constructed was disconcerting bc the main character lacks emotions and motivations. he doesn't look back nor does he look forward to anything. he was just there. to him, eating, relationships or death weighs the same— nothing. para kay mersault mga tao ay masyadong desisyonavility, may innecessant need to make sense of things or assume different from what was laid in front of them.
it definitely makes u reevaluate your perception of things, situations and people. it challenges your morality. it questions your existence. "nothing matters" can sound grim but it's also comforting to be free of any ties in this world. it's up to you to give life meaning or not. whether you die today or the next 15 years, it doesn't matter. it's just the same thing— you were born, you live and then you die. the book was definitely depressing and bleak so don't read it if you're not in the right headspace. it's an intriguing study about apathy and the meaninglessness of life. ig you can apply certain things on particular facets of your life but it's not a handbook nor a persona you should explicitly live by. it's just one way to look at life.
