Trouble Girls by Julia Lynn Rubin
4.0
A book for readers that love morally grey characters and high-tension. Trouble Girls is a road-trip story gone wrong. Childhood best friends, Trixie and Lux, take off from their deadbeat home town for a weekend getaway. But a single night turns the weekend on its head - now both girls are on the run.
Tackling intense themes of sexual assault and trauma, this is a high-paced read about high-school fugitives. It is dark and often emotionally grisly, with a host of eccentric characters along the way. Rubin is skillful at threading intense emotion and edge-of-the-seat pacing throughout the reader's experience. And while the romance - as wonderfully queer as it was - didn't stick the landing or feel neccessary, it is a fantastic tale of high stakes and terrible circumstances. What would you do when there seems to be no where safe to run to?
