Rinkitink in Oz by L. Frank Baum

2.0

Not my favorite Oz book! The best thing about the story was Bilbil the goat, whose grouchy monologues paralleled my own while reading the book. Rinkitink should've stayed in the well, as far as I'm concerned. Inga was a neat character I wouldn't mind seeing again, though his omniscient and omnipotent pearls were an ambitious, somewhat dangerous plot device that could cause a lot of difficulties for the author. Baum's choice in titles frequently baffles me. Rinkitink isn't the main character of the book, and he's in Oz for only a fraction of the book. I read that Baum wrote most of the story ten years previously, before a lot of the Oz mythos had developed, so perhaps that explains the disconnect.
