Why I Am An Atheist: An Autobiographical Discourse by Bhagat Singh

5.0

To understand the book to the fullest it should be read with an unprejudiced, unbiased, rational and argumentative mind.
I was born, and completed studies, in India but what I knew about Bhagat Singh was that he was a brave freedom fighter who gave his life for the nation. But this book is a clear mirror showing the logical thinker in him.
Also, he was a believer of communism, which was never mentioned in the history classes.
What impressed me more is that he was just 22 while he wrote this wonderful article.
The essay was a reply to his religious friends who thought Bhagat Singh became an atheist because of his vanity. He thinks that beliefs are the creation of the shrewd people who wanted to snatch reason from the people.
"They were always in search of petty hoaxes to play upon people and snatch from them the power of Reason."
He implores the reader to think logically and answer his questions on religion.

The essay has not succeeded in turning me into an atheist but still, I loved the way he composed it.
