Auschwitz: A New History by Laurence Rees

5.0

Fabulous book. Rees had access to many survivors of Auschwitz including some SS who worked there. What struck me the most is that of some 6,500 SS who worked at Auschwitz only about 750 were tried. Thousands went "scot-free" (Rees' words). Those who were executed showed no remorse and their culpability was much more than just "following orders".
