Lying Out Loud by Kody Keplinger

3.0

By reading this book I could spend a little more time with Wesley and Bianca? Count me in. I like being able to keep up with YA couples. Wait, is that weird? Anyway, back to the story. Girl hates boy. Mutual hatred. But Boy likes Girl's best friend. Girl accidentally--then intentionally--catfishes boy and then falls for him.

Ryder Cross is no Wesley Rush. That’s obvious, right? Wrong or right, I couldn’t help but feel a little let down. Although I loooooved the fact that he secretly loved rom-coms enough to have a collection of them, his hipster pretentiousness got a little old. I think that's the point, though. Which brings me to the next thing...

I saw similarities in Kody Keplinger's characters (from the two books); the main one being what you see is NOT what you get. This is precisely why there’s always the difference of who they really are and how people perceive them. Ryder, to me, wasn't as interesting or likable as Wesley was. But he was kind of funny. Sonny was a smart girl, and she actually made me laugh a couple times. But she told SO many lies over the course of the book, which it made me realize how much I really hate lying/being lied to. As if I needed reminding.

Sonny & Amy. I liked how their friendship was written. I liked that Sonny told Amy early on that she liked Ryder. The only problem is that the web of lies had already grown too big for her to keep up with. She wasn’t being fair to Amy. I was really proud of Amy for finally saying that enough was enough. And I'm glad they fixed their friendship in the end.
