The Serpent's Tale by Ariana Franklin

5.0

I love mysteries of all kinds and have a special fondness for historical mysteries. And especially when the main character is a feisty woman who goes against the grain of what others think should be the norm.
Adelia is that woman in this series. Her life is complicated when she wants it to be simple. She has her daughter, her friends in the fen and she likes it that way. Then she gets called out to help avert a potential war.
I like the atmosphere that is created with this book as much as I enjoy the intricacies of the mystery and investigation. Ariana Franklin created such a mentally visual world and characters. I'm sad, probably selfishly, that she is no longer with us as there won't be more books in the series. So I will savor them slowly.
I can definitely recommend this book, series and author.
