I did not see the plot twist coming at all. It sneaks up on you, in a bitterly sad and beautiful way. I would have loved to read more about Cadence and her journey grappling with the things revealed at the end of the book, but I guess part of the beauty lies in that fact that we don’t know, because grief is not a singular or linear journey with a template.
A well written book, and I actually love the author’s voice & use of poetry-like devices to add drama to the prose. Also extremely atmospheric and a beautiful, if sorrowful tale. 10/10 would recommend.
A note I felt I had to add after reading other reviews for this book: A lot of people will rate this based on the likeability of the characters, but if anything, I adore books that have well-written unreliable narrators or unlikeable protagonists. It’s more fun - after all, who wants a Mary Sue?
