The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez

5.0

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨4.5! Abby Jimenez does not disappoint. Her books aren’t just fluffy romance stories, but include well-rounded characters dealing with relatable (and pretty realistically represented) tough life experiences (in this case, infertility and grief) I appreciate that her male characters are generally nice guys- Josh, the main character, respects boundaries and doesn’t make a move on Kristen while her boyfriend is overseas. His Trevor, the boyfriend, doesn’t get mean and jealous when he finds out about the other guy. Brandon, the best friend, is loving and supportive to his guy friends and his fiancé Sloan. Also enjoyed the strong friendship between Sloan and Kristen. Criticisms would be Josh constantly thinking “she’s not like other girly girls, she’s a cool girl who likes beer and fast food.” Girls who like wine and charcuterie aren’t lame. And I wasn’t a fan of how Kristen strung Josh along for so long. I can’t help but think “If these two people just communicated honestly and openly like mature adults, there’d be no conflict..” But, well, hard to write a book with no conflict/problem, haha.
