The Last Runaway by Tracy Chevalier

3.0

Found the "thee"s a bit odd thrown into normal grammar. Perhaps Quakers spoke differently. Underneath the soap opera plot there was an important message about how complicated slavery was. Sadly history is now questioning how the slaves were eventually freed and the following economic hardship they suffered once freed, which for many was initially worse than slavery. As this book shows the message is clear but the practicalities are hard. I liked the use of quilting to link in social differences.
