Oh William! by Elizabeth Strout

4.0

They say there are two kinds of Strout readers: Olive Kitteridge people and Lucy Barton people. If I had to choose I would pick Kitteridge, but please don’t make me choose. I’ve enjoyed returning to both these characters and worlds with Strout in her recent work. She obviously had unfinished business with them, as they did with her. I loved Oh William! Lucy’s voice and Strout’s use of first person narration feel so natural and intimate. I would love to hug Lucy and be hugged by her. She very much needs a hug in this book as she’s recently widowed and helping her first husband process some family secrets he has recently discovered. Oh William! Oh Lucy! Oh Elizabeth! A true delight.
