This was honestly such a great read. I wouldn't say it's prefect, but the intrigue makes up for the any imperfections. I started it late at night when I'd just finished another book planning to just read the first couple of chapters and ended up reading the first 100 pages. I finished it in less than 36 hours. There is just something about the main characters I loved and the tension was spot on for me. It wasn't particularly terrifying (for me at least, but I consume a good amount of horror), but got pretty eerie in some places.
Graphic: Body horror, Death, Gore, and Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Panic attacks/disorders
The monster is an unfathomable being from another plane that likes to play with it's food, but keeps them alive. There is a description of a man whose bottom body is rotted away, but he is still alive. At the end taxidermy animals come to life and the main character ends up swimming in the guts of the guy mentioned above.
