I was so excited to read a book about queer people in Iran, because this is a group that doesn't get talked about nearly enough, but I was sorely disappointed. The entire plot revolved around an incredibly transphobic premise of a cisgender woman pretending to be trans to apparently receive less discrimination, under the assumption that trans people in Iran apparently experience zero discrimination.
