The Tragedy of Felix and Jake by J. Daniels

5.0

This was an honest, raw experience of addiction and recovery, and finding love during some of your lowest moments. It certainly didn’t shy away from the pain and trauma of fighting for sobriety; it’s also a reminder of the emotional toll it takes on those that love an addict. But while it dealt with these heavy topics, the characters and the story also had a lightness to it that made it almost whimsical at times. It had me laughing, swooning, crying then sobbing, and laughing while crying … I needed a day to sit with all the emotions.

Felix so desperately wanted someone to love who loved him in return. He was sparkly, adorable and just so amusing. Jake was a mess of grumpiness with trust issues. But he stood no chance against that shy smile in a beanie. It’s a romance full of rainbow sprinkled donuts, bitchy cats, nosy af friends, unconditional love of found/family and soulmates.

These two were broken and complicated but they fought so hard for themselves and each other. Their HEA was built purely on hope, when they thought they didn’t have any. Felix & Jake will live inside my heart for always.
