Alice by Christina Henry

2.0

Likes:

Writing style. I can't empathise it enough. Christina Henry has a writing style no one else has. It's so unique. For instance, she used a methapor of blood spilling out like milk or at the beginning of this book added a ryhme.

Plot (except the
r@pe
). The idea of Alice in Wonderland but horror and not so la-la, was actually not that bad, but I just wasn't fond of the idea of including
sexual assault
in literally every chapter.

Characters. They are so unique. I'm honest some traits are stereotypical sometimes, but they have something that I can't describe. Sometimes so detailed and have unique quirks.

Dislikes:

Alice is supposed to be
called Alex
, but it rarely happens and even though she
disguised herself, everyone seems to notice that she is a girl.
I get it that the Rabbit
marked her so all his friends know who she is
, but it's still annoying to read it as you expected the
disguise
to work at least a bit.

Why does Alice want to stab everyone's eyes out? Like every time she fights someone she thinks of soft parts and always the eyes. Why the eyes? Isn't the Rabbit's eye enough?

You nit, you nit, you nit. All the time said by literally EVERY character. There are also multiple characters who have the habit of repeating words or sentences and it just makes them seem like they don't have a own voice or speech pattern.

The
Hattie
story is so absurd.
Hatcher didn't know the girl and still worked for the Rabbit just so that Hattie has freedom?
How can one become so bond to someone they don't even know? It makes no sense.

The romance between
Alice and Hatcher
was so out of place. They loved eachother for a reason I can't understand, nor found any. It just happened and that's it. And their love is weird too. Sometimes they come closer, just to withdraw again and try to stay in control. They deny their love, but still know they are in love. It's so weird.

Why is Alice so good in
slaughtering everyone
if she, as said by herself, never done this before? And why do 'bosses' of each district
put their guard down and let themselves be so easily killed?

Coming back to the character deaths. They were so bad and didn't seem like they had any impact on the story. Especially the last 2 deaths were so meh and I quite expected more than
them just willingly wanting to die.
It just ruined all the fun of the book ending.

Logic leak. There is a scene where it is said that a girl hasn't slept and cried for 12 days straight. One usually dies of sleep deprivation after 6-9 days. It's not possible for her to still live.

Triggering (every chapter is rape and sexual assault mentioned)
Literally the worst was the end of chapter 11 with
Hattie
. Is it really so necessary to include this in every chapter? The first time I read an excerpt I really thought the
Alice sexual assault part at the beginning of the book
was everything. If I would have known there was more, I wouldn't have read it. Seriously. I'm so triggered by it.
