Sorcery and Small Magics by Maiga Doocy

delightful. I just recently said to someone that I was thinking about giving up on cozy fantasy because every time I tried to read something from the genre, it either had wildly mismatched tone and stakes or was essentially fantasy small business owner sim, neither of which was appealing. But this essentially hits every mark on my wishlist. Interesting world but the story focused on personal high stakes rather than systemic issues, serious on serious issues and silly on others, really fascinating and unique magic system, story arc that means a lot to our main characters but isn’t about saving the world. extremely well balanced. the romance is queer (MM) and verrryyy slow burn, as in, it will have to be picked up in book 2. But the characters went from annoying to actually really lovable the more I learned about them.
