Blessed, by Cynthia Leitich Smith

4.0

Yay! All of our favourite characters are back (well, except for Miranda… she does come up a couple times though). Smith did a great job in tying this book to ‘Tantalize’ and ‘Eternal’.

We jump right back into the fray, with Quincie almost killing her true love/best friend and Kieran still leaving for the wolf pack. This book also introduces Aimee, (who is one of the stars of Smith’s spinoff series, ‘Feral Nights’).

On top of running her restaurant, school work, worrying about the soon-to-be-vamp army that Brad is creating, worrying about the freaky dreams and the freaky voice in her head, and missing Kieran, Quincie now has to deal with the fact that she may lose her eternal soul. Because she is a vampire, she is now in danger of losing her soul and by drinking human blood, she loses it every time. Killing makes her lose it too. However, it does help that Quincie refuses the urge that tells her human blood is tasty. Now, it is Quincie’s job to try and connect with her humanity and stay this way. But, that is kind of hard when you are chasing down a crazy vampire intent of ruling everyone, including you.

I loved the way that ‘Dracula’ was incorporated into the book. It was done really well and I was surprised on how much sense it made in the story. I liked the way that Smith created parallels in between Quincie story and that of Dracula. Dun Dun Daaaaaaaaa!

Can’t wait to catch up with the gang in ‘Diabolical’!
