I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L. Sánchez

5.0

Heartwrenching, relatable, beautiful. I wish this book existed when I was a teen! I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter addresses teen depression in the most real, rawest way. The story is a relatable coming-of-age tale dealing with finding who you are and what it's like when you have that first "eureka" moment that your parents are also humans dealing with their own baggage.

The protagonist Julia always felt like the black sheep in her conservative family, but even more so after the death of her "perfect" sister. There is an element of mystery surrounding her sister's life comes to a surprising conclusion, and the topics of teen friendship and first love are also touched upon and wonderfully executed. Can't recommend this book enough!
