Inkheart, by Cornelia Funke

5.0

So I have no idea when I read this book for the first or second time, but this is actually my third time reading this lol. While I’m not sure I would have liked it *quite* as much if I was 23 reading this for the first time, the nostalgia and fond memories of the characters and story 100% get this book 5-stars. Of course don’t get me wrong—this story is also extremely well written with some of the most fun characters! I also just so appreciate that despite this being a middle-grade, besides Meggie, pretty much all the characters we follow are adults. I just love the maturity and knowledge Cornelia Funke has that children are smart enough to read about adults, too.

And of course…besides Wolverine, Dustfinger was the beginning of my love for the antihero with the tragic backstory. To this day I still love this character to death and I can’t wait to finally continue on and finish this trilogy (which is why I re-read this lol). Reading this was like a warm hug from my kid self. So great!!!
