Maddie Hatter and the Deadly Diamond by Jayne Barnard

What a fun book! I am not big into steampunk per se, although I quite enjoyed [b:Soulless|6381205|Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1)|Gail Carriger|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1314020848s/6381205.jpg|6569140]. But I love adventure and strong female protagonists, and Maddy delivers on both. The story moves at a nice pace, keeping the action moving while still giving the characters room to develop. Will she ever get her byline?

SpoilerThe presence of a spoof of a certain Belgian detective was quite fun. The narcissism was spot on, although the original was never quite that narcoleptic...
