Blue Bayou by Jiffy Kate
2.0
2.5⭐️ I loved what this book could have been. I still thought it was okay as it was, but I wish it had more detail. About their attraction/chemistry, how they got to where they were in their lives, trying to figure out what they wanted, something. I felt like the most detail was about how hot Maverick found Carys. And then all of a sudden they were in love. Yeah they talked a bit and went out together, but it was so fast without much depth. I wanted to be able to connect to the MCs but it was so difficult for me.
The characters, most the supporting ones, were fun and really kept the book moving along for me. I liked how they looked out for Carys. The setting and atmosphere really added to the story. I loved that the Blue Bayou was a family place and that the local businesses would all help each other out. And the journal aspect was a really touching piece to their puzzle.
It also took me a really long time to get into this book. I started it like 3 times in 3 days and couldn’t get past the first couple chapters. It got better, but the beginning didn’t hook me. Throughout, I couldn’t get past how much of a mess Carys was and that she needed Maverick to rescue her when she had people who had worked there for years. Why didn’t she figure things out sooner? And why couldn’t Maverick just be more upfront. I dislike when characters not communicating is the conflict in a book.
