On Beauty by Zadie Smith

5.0

I enjoyed this book, maybe not as much as "White Teeth," but I still liked it. The characters are all so flawed and believable, and I like Smith's writing style. She's not preachy and she takes on big issues head on (race, education, family strife, ideas of self, cultural identity). I think the themes were probably more interesting to me in light of the current divisive political climate, and increasing media coverage of longstanding racial biases.
