The Expats by Chris Pavone

2.0

It’s probably more fair to give this three stars, but I’m kind of mad at it so I’m sticking with two. I wanted a fun, page-turning spy novel and got one that mostly annoyed me instead. The switching back and forth between time periods did not work and was just confusing. The ending was not nearly as interesting as the build up led us to believe it would be. And there were just a lot of little style things that bugged me along the way (lengthy scene descriptions cutting in between dialogue, lack of character development, unsuccessful attempts at being extra mysterious, etc.). So yeah, not a winner for me. Feels good to get these complaints off my chest. :)
