Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes

3.0

In this Wonderland story, we follow our main character, Dinah. She is the daughter of the King of Hearts and will soon be Queen. But she is still trying to get her father's approval and love, even when he reveals a big secret. But Dinah is suspicious of things going on that she is not aware of and she intends to find out before she is Queen.

I don't want to give away too much so that is why the synopsis is so short but quite a lot happens in this story and they would be considered spoilers. I did not love this one but I enjoyed it and thought it was okay. Dinah is a great girl with a good head on her shoulders and seems to only care about her father, even when he pays no attention to her. Her relationship with her childhood friend Wardley is very cute but I think that it could be built on more in the next two books. I love how we get to see some familiar characters from the original Alice story, like Cheshire, who is the King's right hand man and the Mad Hatter, who happens to be Dinah's brother, Charles. The story was entertaining and good but at times I found myself bored because it was dragging. There are lots of secrets in this Wonderland and I was definitely confused for a while on what was going on but I think I may have some of it figured out now. If not, I am hoping the next book will answer my unanswered questions. I am definitely going to continue with the series and I hope that it gets better.
