Blush by Jamie Brenner

4.0

Tasting notes: fruit forward with a crisp presence, but unexpected depths of flavor linger on the palate. Perfectly paired with end of summer patio dining and book club conversation.

In all seriousness, I throughly enjoyed this novel. And I followed my own advice and read this while traveling to Napa, so I really couldn’t have picked a better book to pair it with.

I’ve read a couple of Jamie Brenner’s books already, so I expected the family drama and journey to self realization. What I didn’t expect was the feminist angle in a male dominated industry. It’s something I wouldn’t have appreciated without being told, but I’m happy to report I did attend a winery that has a woman as the winemaker! We’ve a long way to go, but I loved the displays of female empowerment here.

It’s still a fun, lighthearted summer novel, but I enjoyed the layers underneath, as well as the three generations of strong women! Definitely drink some rose whole reading, it enhances the profile for sure!
