The Lunatic Cafe by Laurell K. Hamilton

adventurous dark mysterious tense fast-paced

3.5

Book 4 of the Anita Blake series. We see that Anita and Richard are learning to be in a relationship with one another and what that means for them both. Richard is in a fight to win succession of the werewolf pack that he is a part of. Yes, he's a werewolf. Anita gets brought in by Richard's opposed, him having wanted to meet her and demands her assistance with a case of eight missing shifters. In unrelated news, Richard asks Anita to marry him, way too early in their relationship in my opinion. And not so surprisingly, Anita begins to have her doubts as she discovers more of Richard's shifter side. She confronts Jean Claude about her engagement to Richard and he is less than happy, wanting his chance to woo her as well. The ending has a surprise double whammy when it comes to the various missing shifters.
