Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis by J.D. Vance

3.5
The first half of the book is a shocking detail of Vance's family history and childhood. It is raw, sad, and captures how difficult the cycle of poverty can be to break. The second half, however, details his adult life and it felt much less focused. I had a hard time finishing it.
Moderate: Addiction, Animal cruelty, Cursing, Drug abuse, Miscarriage, Suicide, Grief, Death of parent, and Abandonment
