I found the first 100 pages to be boring, but the pace picks up after that. You will have to read through an immense amount of angst between Mare and Cal (as they broke up in the last book.) A lot of repeat moments of the characters swooning over each other and reminding themselves they need to stop swooning. A lot of boring political moments were boring as well. I skimmed through most of the 100 pages as quickly as possible.
BUT... once the fighting and intrigue begin, the story takes off. The rest of the story is worth reading.
In the end, I felt like there was still a story left to Mare Barrows world and maybe there will be more stories about her in the future. One can hope.
