The Tides Between Us by Cali Melle

1.0

DNF at 8%. The language is so full of simple writing cliches. All of this is on the same page: “I was alone with my thoughts,” and “Life was always a mystery,” and “I never was one to believe in coincidences.” and “Things happened for a reason,” and "I was just simply along for the ride.”
Also on the same page, this gem: “There were too many signs that were pointing in the direction of fate.”

Then there’s the ignorant assumption that Deaf people can read lips perfectly, even while someone’s head is turned away, or they’re looking at a phone screen instead of the person holding the phone up and talking at the same time. And only the Deaf mfc’s signing is in italics, and not the other characters who supposedly know ASL. If you’re going to write a Deaf character, get a Deaf person to read your book before you publish.
