I didn't like Painter in previous books, but he redeemed himself in this one. I liked Melanie in previous books, but I didn't like her as much in this one. She was too unforgiving until--suddenly--she wasn't.
I only gave the book 3*s because Painter and Mel spent way too much time apart and arguing. And I can't say I really felt the love between them.
Fortunately, what I was worried about,, happened "off camera." Seeing a lot of that would have been a deal breaker for me.
