All the Light We Cannot See has brilliant prose and pacing, with the short vignettes and switching POVs keeping the reader on the edge of their seat(s). The book focuses on themes not often spotlighted in regular war stories, instead tackling themes of endurance and family, which can make the book seem not as harrowing or dark as a 'regular' war story such as Catch-22.

The tales of Werner and Marie-Laure were gripping and an effortless page turner. However, the characters lack development and seem obtuse and one-dimensional at times. Despite this, the ending pages of the book were magnificently written and had great emotional depth and understanding as Doerr highlights the after-mass of the war the book's cast experienced. A very worthwhile read!
