Swan Song by Elin Hilderbrand

5.0

In the grand finale of "queen of the beach read" Elin Hilderbrand's beloved Nantucket novels, there's a new couple in town... and they instantly shake things up. Amid the extravagant parties on land and sea, there's trouble on the island, forcing Chief of Police Ed Kapanesh to postpone his retirement and changing the fabric of life on the picturesque island forever...

I look forward every Summer to a new Elin novel and my annual trip to Nantucket, even if it's only in my mind. Her writing just transports you to the island, and I loved getting to see so many characters from previous books.

This one was the perfect mix of beach read, with a little mystery and a whole lot of debauchery thrown in by the new couple in town! I loved every minute of it and thought it was the perfect ending if it had to end.

I chose the audiobook, and @erinbennettnarrates did an amazing job as always at bringing these characters to life. These books wouldn't be the same without her. And then the special treat, was Elin reading the last chapter herself. I think this will bring so many of us to tears. It was perfect and bittersweet. I can't wait to see what she writes with her daughter next. But next Summer, I will have to dive back into her backlist for my Nantucket fix until I'm lucky enough to travel there myself someday.
