American Gods by Neil Gaiman

1.0

Shadow is released from prison and realises that his wife has passed shortly before his release. Having nothing else in life to turn back to, he embarks on an unexpected journey with the weirdest companions, including the reincarnation of the Norse god Odin himself.

Do people carry their gods with them, when they move to another country, or do the gods remain in their homeland? The book explores a lot of topics from culture to self-awareness and is in essence also a cocktail of multiple genres. Having this said, this book is too much, way too much to grasp or even begin to understand. It might be my lacking span of attention, but I really couldn’t proceed reading this book after having finished about 40% of it. I just couldn’t convince myself to continue, as the circus in the book was just so confusing, leading to boredom.

This is my second 1-star read from this author. Should I give him another chance?
