This book was very informative on a topic I’d never heard about before. The Red Cross Clubmobile Girls absolutely deserve wider recognition for their efforts to motivate troops during WWII. The potential dangers and sacrifices the characters must engage with are made clear. There are genuine emotional moments of reflection and character growth, and it’s evident the amount of research the author put in. That being said, this book loses out on the engagement department. The majority of the book is the characters partying and flirting despite the background being bleak. They felt one-dimensional and difficult to relate to; they frequently fall in love at first sight and have fairytale romances. The only time the setting and characters felt compelling was the climax on the Continent. Read if you enjoy slice of live and heartwarming romance, but don’t expect it to get too deep.
